Starting off the album both fists swinging is the aggressive track All At Once, mosh-worthy belter and letting rip a side to Yuuri’s voice we haven’t heard before. Produced by Gaku Taura (support drummer of Crystal Lake and previously in NOCTURNAL BLOODLUST), it is a solid album that does not stop, not even for a second! Fresh off a European tour last summer and an Asia tour in the autumn with Spanish metal band Ankor, Cell Division delivers nine tracks of headbanging, two-step worthy metalcore. It really drives home the range of vocal work that the duo can produce. “This band has been on the road for four years now, and the roller coaster is still only going up.Cell Division is the debut album from Tokyo based metalcore band FAKE ISLAND, released on March 4, the album boasts twin female vocals: Erica on growls and YuuriBJOUX on clean vocals. “We’re definitely staying busy this year, and I couldn’t ask for anything more,” he said. Then it’s off to New York for the iMatter Festival. 13 in Pontiac, Mich., for the sixth time, playing alongside heavy hitters like Killswitch Engage, Asking Alexandria and Hatebreed. This particular tour ends with the Reading show, and It Lies Within then will head to Dirt Fest on Aug. “We’ve started to add those elements into our music, which has taken it to a new level. “We’re also fans of electronic music,” he said, citing movies and video games for that interest. To Scott, metalcore is about having “heavy breakdowns to where you can do some tempo changes – not necessarily the majority of it being thrashy and upbeat and (having) blast beats, but more a mix of that, with clean singing as well.” Think of bands like Bullet for My Valentine, Hatebreed and Shadows Fall. The metalcore subgenre is loosely described as a blend of extreme metal and hardcore punk. It’s reminiscent of bands like Periphery and Veil of Maya. It features beautifully melodic guitar lines that cut through the heaviness of the bottom end, tightly precise drumming and alternating clean and guttural singing, punctuated by touches of electronica. In Lies Within’s second album, “Paramount,” was released in January. “Different things work for different bands, but for us, it’s just work hard, try to work harder than everybody else, “What has been instilled in all of us is just to work hard,” he said. That blue-collar background directly inspired the track “Broken Streets,” which Scott says “made me what I am today.” But we do have friends and family that are affected by it.” We’re a little bit outside the radius of where the water crisis hit. It definitely needs to be taken care of, and I know they’re working slowly to try to do so. “As much as the attention is out there, I feel like it still gets swept under the rug a little bit. The band, which also includes guitarists Matthew Groshart and Kyle Dameron, bassist Erik McKay and drummer Kamron Mead, hails from Flint, Mich., a city that’s been dealing with the lead poisoning of its water supply for months now. I love seeing new people come into this genre.” “If we can keep going out there and do exactly that – start shedding a different light on the scene – then that’s what we’re going to try to do. “Just because we’re screaming doesn’t mean we’re not saying something positive, and just because we wear black clothes doesn’t mean that we’re not the nicest group of people in the world,” Scott said.
